I am continuing to work on flattening the sole of the plane. That work started slowly early last evening, and picked up speed considerably late last night. The rate of progress was most encouraging. And then this evening, as the sole approaches the desired degree of flatness, progress has slowed. There is a low spot just behind the mouth of the plane, and this will, I fear take a bit more work to finish out.

Comparing this photograph with the one in the previous post, you can see the progress. That low spot looks worse in the photo than it does in real life. Overall, I am quite pleased with the process so far.
Ed gave me a DVD tutorial on sharpening planes and I have been watching that this evening. Why is it when the experts do an instructional video everything seems to go quite smoothly? Watching the video I thought, "Well, that doesn't look so difficult." Somehow I suspect things won't go that well for me the first time or two I sharpen the blade.
This is Thursday evening, and it is not too early to be planning out the tasks I want to accomplish this weekend:
Find the charger for the cordless drill (packed away somewhere in storage)
Build the work bench/table
Continue working on the plane - flattening the sole and sharpening the blade
Glue up the rudder blank
Glue up the stem blank
Study the plans (This shouldn't even be on the list as I review some part of the plans every day)
