Progress!

Following my Ah Ha moment Sunday evening, I stayed up to shape the first half of the stem. Here's what that looked like:

It doesn't look like much there, but it was a major accomplishment for me!

Monday evening I decided to work on the other half of the stem. After some pleasant work with the plane I declared the stem finished (for now)! Here's how it looks:

I say finished "for now" because I didn't want to go too far and take too much wood off (as in, "Oops, gotta build a new one!"). If I need to, I can make adjustments when it is time to attach the hull sides to the stem.

Now it is time to glue up the rudder blank. Here's how that looks clamped up for a dry fit:

This looks very nice but when the epoxy is applied and I am fitting things together I'll wish I had more hands and less epoxy! I may have to recruit the extra hands. And I may have to be stingy with the epoxy - the extra squeezes out, runs and drips all over everything, and makes the pieces being glued together very slippery (which makes it more difficult to get things aligned and clamped the way they should be). I suspect it may be the weekend before I can glue the rudder pieces together.
